Reflection
The presentation that I saw was very emotional to me. I thought that the men that came to speak to us were all very brave. I have a hard time giving a speech in speech class so they probably have even a harder time to speak about their life and what they have gone through. Ben, the 19 year old, had the most impact one me because he is so close to my age. It was crazy to hear how he blew away his life with drugs and how he could have had a baseball scholarship. Since he did drugs he couldn’t do what he loved to do. It was sad to hear how the majority of the men who were there got abused as a child, physically and emotional. I think that is biggest reason why they used drugs. They never had someone to love them so they took drugs to ease their pain. They also had no one to talk to them about things that have negatively affected them. The only people they talked to was people who also took drugs. When the teachers left the room, the lady asked the students is they knew anybody who has taken drugs. It was crazy to see all the hands go up. About 2/3 of the seniors put their hand up. This means that there are even more underclass men who know someone who has taken drugs. I personal know many people who have taken drugs. I think it is sad to hear the stories the men said and then to see all the people I know who could end up like them.
I agree that it was really emotional, and I give those men so much credit for sharing such personal stories. I also was really impacted by Ben, the young man who lost his scholarship. I definitely feel super fortuante for having such supportive friends and family growing up and for being encouraged to make decisions that would not negatively impact me in the way that drugs and alcohol can
